How far should the suction catheter be inserted every time when sucking sputum?

Q: I saw that in the clinic, almost all the tubes of suction catheter were inserted before sputum suction
Is there a clinical value range that can ensure that the length I insert during the operation exactly matches my patient?

A: The insertion depth of the suction catheter generally does not exceed the length of endotracheal tube. In the process of sputum suction, attention should be paid to observe the mind, consciousness, blood oxygen saturation, cyanosis, phlegm sounds, and pulmonary rales.
There is no clear standard for how deep the suction tube should be inserted. It is subject to resistance after insertion. After insertion, when resistance is felt, lift it slightly, and then suction under negative pressure.
Approximately 14-16CM through mouth, 22-25CM through nose.
